Jose Landivar

Jose brings more than a decade of experience helping technology, consumer goods, and media companies protect what they've built — from the brands people recognize to the innovations behind them. At Coates IP, he advises clients on trademark prosecution, enforcement, and brand protection strategy, with a focus on practical solutions that support long-term growth in the global marketplace. 

Before joining Coates IP, Jose served as Trademark & Brand Protection Counsel for Techtronic Industries (TTI), where he managed the trademark portfolio of a leading global cordless technology company whose brands include Milwaukee®, Ryobi®, RIDGID®, and Hoover®. At TTI, Jose developed and implemented brand protection initiatives, led anti-counterfeiting programs across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, and partnered closely with marketing and product development teams to align innovation with the company’s global IP strategy.

Earlier in his career, Jose practiced at Ladas & Parry LLP, an international intellectual property firm. There, he managed trademark and copyright portfolios for major clients in fintech, industrial manufacturing, and consumer goods, advising on trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement. His experience also includes a successful independent practice as trademark and brand protection counsel for two New York–based boutique firms, supporting clients in theater, publishing, retail, and men’s athleticwear.

Jose recently completed two terms on the International Trademark Association’s Anticounterfeiting Committee and is a member of the INTA Technology Transformation Committee (formerly the Internet Committee). He also serves on the New York City Bar Association’s Copyright and Literary Property Committee, where he chairs the Podcast Subcommittee.

He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and holds a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School (2015) and a B.A. from Fordham University in Playwriting.

Currently, based in South Florida (Miami-Fort Lauderdale), Jose balances his legal career with a passion for jiu-jitsu and weightlifting, caring for his beloved Havanese, and the ongoing pursuit of personal and professional growth.
